The 27 Best Photo Session Locations in Jacksonville & St. Augustine

Beaches, gardens, historic streets, and hidden gems across Jacksonville, the Beaches, St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra, and Palm Coast — handpicked from 12+ years of photographing families, couples, and everything in between, with honest parking, fee, and timing tips for every spot.

Hi, I'm Sydney — a Jacksonville family, engagement, and wedding photographer with 12+ years behind the camera across Northeast Florida. In that time I've built up a pretty good mental map of where the light is beautiful, where the crowds aren't, and which spots photograph even better than they look in person.

Every location below is somewhere I've shot and loved — perfect for family sessions, engagement sessions, maternity photos, and more. I've included the honest details too — parking quirks, fees, bug spray warnings, and which spots are seasonal — so there are no surprises on session day. Don't see your dream spot? I'll shoot just about anywhere in Florida or Georgia. This list is a starting point, not a limit!

Quick tags on each spot so you know what to expect — including which locations are available for mini sessions (spots within about 30 minutes of my home base) and which are reserved for full sessions: Minis + Full Sessions Full Sessions Only Sydney's Favorite Location Vibe Timing Note Seasonal Fee / Permission Good to Know

Right in the heart of downtown, just steps from the Main Library, this charming courtyard (you might know it as Hemming Park) is full of little nooks and crannies that photograph beautifully — greenery and urban charm all in one spot.

And the best part? The historic brick streets, golden arched architecture, and tucked-away alleys surrounding the park give us even more to play with. Soft and natural, or bold and editorial — we can get a ton of variety without ever moving the car.

This is the best vantage point in the city for capturing the full Jacksonville skyline and the Main Street Bridge behind you. If you want your photos to say "this is our city," this is the spot.

We shoot here exclusively at sunrise or sunset — that's when the light over the river is absolutely at its best.

The main library downtown is a four-story architectural stunner — grand staircases, a gorgeous map room, an outdoor courtyard, and walls of books that make the most beautiful backdrops.

It's one of my favorite picks for couples who love to read, and it doubles as a fantastic indoor option when Florida weather has other plans.

The Treaty Oak is a massive Southern live oak with sprawling, octopus-like branches — estimated to be around 250 years old, which means it was likely here before Jacksonville was even founded. Standing under it feels genuinely magical.

Plan to arrive a few minutes early — parking is limited and this spot is popular for a reason.

It pairs perfectly with the skyline spots nearby if you want to make a downtown session of it.

The Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center has a stunning outdoor space with stately columns and a large fountain — grand, timeless, and a little unexpected for a photo session.

It's also one of my go-to backup plans when the forecast looks iffy, so your session can go on rain or shine.

This is one of my favorite session locations. The beach access near the pier holds a special place in my heart, and at sunrise it is absolutely breathtaking — soft golden light coming up over the ocean with the pier's silhouette behind you.

The pier itself adds so much character, and it works beautifully for everything from intimate couples sessions to big family gatherings.

Just before Amelia Island on Jacksonville's Northside, Boneyard Beach is famous for its dramatic, weathered driftwood — giant sun-bleached trees scattered along the shore. There's truly nothing else like it in the area.

A few things to know before you fall in love: parking is $5 cash, it's about a one-mile walk to reach the beach, and this spot is only available for sessions in fall and winter (bring bug spray!).

Because of that mile-long trek, I gently recommend one of my other beautiful beach spots for mamas nearing their due date, families with very little legs, and anyone with mobility needs — I want your session to feel magical from start to finish, never exhausting. I'm always happy to help you find a spot with the same wow factor and an easier stroll!

Black Rock Beach is like Boneyard Beach and Vilano Beach had a beautiful baby — expansive black rock formations and driftwood everywhere, all moody texture and natural drama.

Getting there is part of the adventure: about a one-mile walk down a dirt trail from the parking area. Pack bug spray, and like Boneyard, this one's fall and winter only.

Common Questions

Photo Session Location FAQs

What are the best photo session locations in Jacksonville, FL?

Some of my favorites are the Jacksonville Beach Pier (especially at sunrise), Treaty Oak Park, James Weldon Johnson Park, Friendship Fountain with the skyline behind you, Walter Jones Park in Mandarin, and Boneyard Beach on Big Talbot Island. The best choice really depends on the vibe you want — beachy and bright, mossy and moody, or urban and modern.

Where should I take family photos in Jacksonville?

For family photos, beaches like Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Neptune Beach are bright and airy, while parks like Walter Jones Park, Howell Park, and Yacht Basin Park give you Spanish moss, oak trees, and room for kids to play. My best advice: pick somewhere your kids will actually enjoy being — a happy kid makes for the best candid photos.

What are the best engagement photo locations near St. Augustine?

Downtown St. Augustine is one of the best engagement photo locations in Florida — the Lightner Museum, Flagler College, the Bridge of Lions, and historic cobblestone streets everywhere you turn. Nearby, Vilano Beach offers rocky jetties along Matanzas Bay, and Washington Oaks Gardens in Palm Coast has a romantic, fairytale feel.

Do any photo session locations in Jacksonville require fees or permits?

A few do! Boneyard Beach and Black Rock Beach on Big Talbot Island have $5 cash parking, and Washington Oaks Gardens State Park has a $5 per-vehicle entry fee. Most public parks and beach accesses in the Jacksonville area are free for portrait sessions — and I'll always flag any fees before we book.

When is the best time of day for a photo session in Florida?

Golden hour — shortly after sunrise or before sunset — gives the most flattering, glowy light. Morning sessions are also the safest bet weather-wise, since Florida afternoons love a pop-up rain shower, especially in summer. Some spots, like Friendship Fountain, are best photographed exclusively at sunrise or sunset. Once you pick your location, I'll help you dial in the perfect time for the light.

Which Jacksonville photo locations are only available seasonally?

Boneyard Beach and Black Rock Beach on Big Talbot Island, along with Bird Island Park in Ponte Vedra Beach, are fall and winter spots. Cooler months mean better conditions, fewer bugs, and much more comfortable sessions at these natural locations.

Why are mini sessions only offered at some locations?

Mini sessions are short and sweet — usually 15 to 20 minutes, booked back-to-back in one day — so I keep them at locations within about 30 minutes of my home base on Jacksonville's Eastside. That way I can stay on schedule for every family! Locations farther out (like St. Augustine, Palm Coast, and Green Cove Springs) are absolutely still available — they're just reserved for full sessions, where we have plenty of time to make the drive worth it. Look for the "Minis + Full Sessions" or "Full Sessions Only" tag on each location above.
